Long before KS Autocare was established, there was a shared passion for mechanics that started on a humble dairy farm outside of Elgin, IL., and in a backyard garage on the west side of town. Mike and Seth, the owners of KS Autocare, grew up near Elgin, IL. Mike was on the dairy farm while Seth lived in town, and they were introduced to the world of engine repair in very different ways. The dairy farm’s mechanic, Bob, was not just a fixer of machines but a mentor who saw potential in Mike as a young boy. Bob’s expertise with heavy equipment and light trucks was a beacon for Mike, who eagerly absorbed every bit of knowledge. Living on a dairy farm was the perfect place to grow up, feel inspired, and learn the importance of smoothly running vehicles.

On the other side of town, Seth’s journey started in a small garage where he and his cousin would spend their time tinkering with mini bikes so they could ride. This early exposure to mechanics ignited Seth’s passion for automotive repair. Recognizing his talent, his cousin and Keith Bauer, an industrial arts teacher in Elgin, encouraged him to pursue formal education in mechanics. This led Seth to enroll at WYO Tech in Laramie, Wyoming.

Mike and Seth discovered they had a shared passion for all things automotive and developed a deep camaraderie. They forged a strong bond over their mutual passion for auto mechanics. After graduation, they each returned to Elgin, IL, where Seth returned to the auto repair shop he had been working at. Seth persuaded the owner to hire Mike as a technician. The two worked well together and began dreaming of owning their own shop. Although their initial plan to purchase the shop they both worked for ended up falling through, they were resilient and did not let it cancel their dreams of owning a shop.

In February 1996, Mike and Seth officially co-founded KS Autocare, with a name born from their commitment to excellence, by combining each of their last names – Kenyon and Scott. Their dream of building an auto repair shop that stood for integrity and provides consistent quality service was born.
